The Natural History Museum's famous dinosaur, Dippy the Diplodocus left the museum for the first time to go a on a tour of the UK in 2018, and Rochdale was selected as one of just 8 venues to host him during the tour; his only stop in the North West of England.
Dippy was on display in the award winning council offices in Rochdale between 10 February 2020 and 12 December 2020. The council along with its partner Link4Life organised a selection of activities for people of all ages. The main aim of the tour was to inspire the next generation of scientists by giving them access to fantastic, nationally-important exhibits like Dippy.
Dippy had a wonderful stay with us welcoming over 120,000 visitors, including 8,000 children from schools across the borough of Rochdale and the wider region. It was an incredible journey for all and also gave scientists of the future and opportunity to engage with this famous exhibit and the wonderful exhibition, both in person and online.
Dippy certainly made a big impression across the North West and was a once in a lifetime opportunity for many to see the superstar dinosaur and accompanying exhibition.
Thank you to all who visited Dippy and engaged with the programme of events.
