Thomas Langley, Chancellor of England was educated in Middleton. In 1412 he rebuilt the Parish Church & founded a charity school - the original foundation of the Grammar School. Completed in 1584 & now restored as a heritage centre. Remarkable features include marvellous oak roof beams and much more.
