Food & Drink
You can take your taste buds on a tour of the world around the borough of Rochdale, with Asian cuisine in famous Milkstone Road and Heywood, Greek nights in Littleborough, not forgetting superb home-cooked meals in country pubs, fine restaurants run by award-winning chefs and Rochdale’s burgeoning café culture.
Speaking of amazing chefs, the highly talented Andrew Nutter, a protégé of Gary Rhodes, has picked up a swathe of awards since opening Nutters, housed in an 18th century manor house just outside Rochdale town. A regular on television, Andrew is a great promoter of the wonderful produce of the area.
That produce can be enjoyed at tempting restaurants across the borough, and you’ll also find great local produce for sale at markets in Rochdale, Middleton and Heywood and at the new monthly farmers’ market in Littleborough.
You can chill out with Fairtrade coffees and teas at numerous cafés around the borough, and enjoy a luxury afternoon tea at Nutters, or with ex-Harvey Nichol’s head chef Alison Seagrave at her ‘macaroon’ tea room.
Finally, traditional English pubs oozing with atmosphere and serving the finest real ales are a speciality of the area. Take a visit to the delightful half-timbered inn, The Old Boar’s Head in Middleton, one of the country’s oldest pubs, or The Baum, tucked away in Rochdale’s conservation area of Toad Lane and you’ll know what we’re talking about.
